Builder-Basic Gets an Upgrade
For this redesign, our clients were looking to add some luxury to a builder-basic house.
In the master bedroom, we added a walk-in closet with stained oak storage to help keep the space organized and the bedroom floor clothes-free. Four-drawer units help create storage for smaller items, while long- and short-hanging rods create plenty of places to hang clothes. The ensuite boasts a stunning countertop-to-ceiling mirror, crackled-textured accent tile in the shower and a freestanding tub.
For the main bathroom, we created a fun bathroom for two young girls in a timeless style that will grow them. We used dark navy blue cabinetry and a multi-coloured neutral accent tile in shower and at the vanity. An adjustable, handheld showerhead moves up and down and can be adjusted as the children grow, and also makes cleaning the bathtub easier.
We transformed the kitchen into a space where this couple can age in place. Added storage in the pantry frees up countertop space and keeps kitchen items clean. The large island is a place for the family to visit and cook meals together. The rustic wood on the back of the island brings texture into the space, as does the heavy-duty steel wire shelving. Floor-to-ceiling cabinets were placed on one large wall and a coffee-and-tea area was created outside of the kitchen, out of the way of the cook.
