Small Kitchen Made Functional
We took this space from a dark and incomplete kitchen to a new bright, functional, and complete kitchen. The first change to make this kitchen functional was moving it from against a wall to the wall left of the sink allowing both doors to open fully. Often times we find designs where fridges are placed next to walls which actually decrease the functionality of being able to open your doors and drawers to their full potential. Once the fridge was moved to its new location we were able to place the dishwasher just right of the sink in a more convenient location for a right handed user.
The stove remained on its original wall but now centred to the cabinets. Three drawer units on each side of the stove provide plenty of storage for pots, pans, utensils, dishes and containers. As an added bonus for our clients we removed the existing closet and added in a bar area perfect fit for a wine fridge and a bit of extra storage. The mirror backsplash helps to make the space feel larger and glam it up!
Their new Kitchenaid appliance package supplied and installed by William Standen were curated to suit their lifestyle and the way they use their appliances. The dual-fuel range provides high quality performance for a chef that likes to cook and experiment with meals. While the new fridge provides plenty of storage and easy to access water and ice.
White cabinetry help to brighten up the space, letting the natural light from the large kitchen window flood the space and bounce of each surface. While the marble like backsplash tile and quartz countertop textures mixed with soft greyish blue walls give off a welcoming and calming ambiance. Our clients liked the idea of a slate floor so we selected a neutral slate like tile that spans from the kitchen all the way to the living room and up and down the new stairs.
It was a tough decision between keeping the existing stairs and refinishing them or replacing them. Ultimately it was decided to replace the stairs as refinishing them would have been about the same in labour with not the ideal outcome and by replacing them we were able to create a new set that ties in with the rest of the space.
In the end our clients now have a space that is more functional and suitable to their personality and lifestyle and we hope they enjoy for many years to come!

Before & After
This is the first time that we have used a designer and it was probably one of the smartest decisions we made on the project. The people that were in the house from the beginning to the end were professional and explained everything throughout the entire renovation. The extra time that it took to ensure that certain things were done right was explained and allowed us to get an understanding of what was happening. All employees represented William Standen Co. very well and were extremely professional. The overall experience was great! We are looking forward to making some amazing meals in our new kitchen!
Mutually beneficial relationships.
