Transitional Modern Main Floor Make Over

Whole Home Redesign
Sarnia, ON

The homeowner came to us with the challenge of redesigning their kitchen and master ensuite bathroom. We found that the existing kitchen did not maximize the room’s potential and had a lot unused space. We optimized the functionality and took the aesthetics to a whole new level. The new kitchen features a walk-in-pantry, a ton of storage, high-end luxe finishes and a look that is sure to impress.

The main challenge of the master bathroom was to keep the new space within the existing structure. The solution was to wipe the slate clean, start over with a redesign that served their needs now, and for the future. With careful consideration to floor joists, plumbing pipes and construction details, we were able to relocate the toilet to the opposite end of the bathroom without compromising drainage slope or floor joists, for the purpose of making it more private and allow the homeowner, who worked shift work, to enter the bathroom in the dark to use the toilet without walking the distance of the room.

How We Transformed This Home

Walk-In-Pantry

A key feature of the newly designed kitchen was a walk-in-pantry. The existing space lacked storage and the new design is chok-full of storage opportunities for food, small appliances, utensils and more.

The walk in pantry was designed to house items such as stand-mixers, blenders, toasters, as well as boxed food and canned items. It keeps the kitchen looking sleek and clean, and allows the chef to enter the pantry to grab items close by.

Custom Shower

The user experience was enhanced in the shower due to oversizing the base and overlapping the soaker tub creating an asymmetrical look and to maximize space for ease of movement. A divider wall was added to divide the shower from the vanity space, and a small curb was added to keep water from leaving the shower area. The edge of the tub acts as a seat for shaving in the tub or in the shower and you can effortlessly go from shower to tub. Every design decision and selections that were made were chosen specifically to provoke a bold yet calming ambiance in a space that the couple will enjoy for many years to come.

Cabinetry

The vanity was moved and offers added storage on each side of the sink. Lighting was optimized in the shower, over the tub, above the vanity and toilet. The rich, textured wood-like floor tile was designed with a unique linear pattern to offset the items placed on the tile, and allowed the room to feel more open and added an audacious feel.

Storage

A custom storage cabinet was added with two hidden doors facing the toilet to house tissue and private items. The front of the cabinet featured open shelving for towels and décor.

This cabinet also acted as a divider for a soaker tub, which was surrounded in luxurious marble-esque tile.

Aging in place was also a priority from the start. Although the client was not ready to add grab bars at this point in their life, extra measures were taken to ensure backing was installed at every sensible location to eliminate extra work in the future.
